What to wear for your portrait experience. I'm not going to lie to you, this part isn't easy. But it doesn't have to fill you with angst. When you decide to do a shoot with me, I will give you all of my advice and I will hold your hand through the entire process if you need me to.
I wrote about how to book your photography session three weeks ago. In that blog post, I told you that once you book a session with me, we will meet to discuss your ideas, the location and outfit choices. During that meeting (I like to call them chat & snacks) we will talk about how you want to look and feel and
you will receive the clothing do's and don'ts.
But wait, there's more!
After our chat and snack, I will send you an e-mail going over everything we discussed. At the bottom of the e-mail, you will find a link to my Pinterest "what to wear" board so you can start getting ideas of outfits, see how different pieces look together and get a feel of how YOU'd like to feel during your session. It's so much easier to "shop your closet" once you've been inspired by seeing how pieces can work together before standing in front of your closet pairing the same things together.
It is so important that you look and feel absolutely fantastic on the day of your session. The old saying is true - when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, it shows! We both want that for you. We both want you to have images of yourself that make you feel beautiful, confident and reflect who you are. In the follow-up e-mail I send you, you'll see that you can text me pictures of your outfits to get a second opinion, see if it will work on camera or in the chosen location. It is so important to me that you feel your very best that if you feel you need a second opinion or help shopping for a few pieces, give me a few days notice I will go with you. Don't worry, there is no extra charge for this. We are a team and together, we will make sure you are glowing with confidence before you step foot in front of the camera.
So here are the top 3 basics for you -
1. Solid colors look the best but you'll want to try to stay away from neon colors close to the face. Prints will work just fine as well as long as it isn't tiny print. We want the focus on you, not your shirt.
2. Clothing too tight OR too baggy will end up "adding" weight. You want your outfits to look tailored just for you.
3. Layers are your friend for a few reasons - it can hide what you don't want to be noticed and you can get a couple of different looks out of one outfit just by removing a jacket, scarf, or sweater.
So now you know how to book your session, the purpose of a pre-meeting, choosing a location and now - how to choose your clothing. Next week we will Go over what happens during your session. This is some good stuff.
With love,
Tonia
